The word mondegreen means a word or a phrase resulting from mishearing another word or phrase (especially in a song or poem). The term itself was coined in 1954 by author Sylvia Wright based on lyrics she misheard during her childhood of the 17th century ballad called “The Bonnie Earl O’Moray”. – WTF Fun Facts
